How to organize your job search (step by step)
In short: pick 3 to 6 job titles you want, make a list of 10 to 15 companies you like, apply with a weekly goal (for example, 5 applications) and follow up after 10 business days if nobody answers.
1. Decide what you want
Write the job titles the way they show up in job posts (for example, «Digital Marketing Manager» or «Head of Growth»), your level (senior, lead, manager), where and how you're willing to work (on-site, hybrid or remote), and the lowest take-home pay you'd accept.
2. Pick the companies you follow
Many companies post their jobs on their own careers page (Lever, Greenhouse, Workable). Check them every week, or let a tool watch them for you.
3. Apply at a steady pace
A few applications that really fit beat lots of random ones. Adjust your CV to each role and write down the date of every application.
4. Follow up
If there's no answer after 10 business days, send a short message to whoever posted the job. If 15 more business days go by with no answer, archive it and move on.
5. Track your progress
Keep count of jobs applied to, in progress, interviews and offers. Seeing your progress helps you keep going.
JobRats does this for you: it finds jobs that fit, applies for you to the ones you choose, reminds you to follow up and writes the message. Try it free.
